Courses: METAR1 and METAR2

Required courses in weather observation for personnel taking observations in connection with helicopter traffic and provide information directly to the helicopter pilots and / or helicopter company. Applies for platforms and mobile installations on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Reference to authority requirements: Regulations Aeronautical meteorological service BSL G 7-1 § 6 and Appendix 3.

METAR1: basic training

The course is a basic training, and consists of a theoretical part of 4 days and a practical part of 5 days including exam.  To pass the examination 75% must be correct, then a diploma for basic training will be issued.

 

METAR2 - Periodic academic update (PFO)

The course is a required annual refresher training for all personnel who report METAR weather observations to helicopter traffic and / or AVINOR / Meteorological Institute and who have completed METAR1 basic training, theory and practical part.

The course includes both theoretical and practical update and any changes in policy or practice.

 For all courses apply the following:

Qualifications: Good general education (high school), desired practice from maritime environment, aviation environment or similar.

Registration: As soon as possible, and no later than 14 days before the course starts. Registration is mandatory.

Cancellation: If cancellation of course takes place after the deadline, Norwegian Meteorological Institute will reserve the right to  50% payment of the course fee.
 
Participants: We reserve the right to cancel courses where there are not enough participants.  If the given date not fit, we will be positive for alternative time, provided that registration of a minimum of 4 participants for each course.
